Televised Live Stunt Performance
Hürth, Germany
EnBW chose HVFX to coordinate a world-first lightning stunt routine on live television. Unglaublich is the flagship Saturday night variety show of major German television network, RTL. The live stunt sequence was integrated into a window of just 6 minutes during the show. A live television audience of several million witnesses this world first. The stunt was extensively trailed and produced a significant increase in the viewing audience.
Marco Schreyl, the presenter, was understandably nervous about the stunt. A familiarisation routine was designed into rehearsals to build Marco's confidence prior to the live show. The stunt coordinator, Nicholas Field, commented "The key to to performing a stunt of this kind safely is to slowly build the performers confidence and competence within a clearly defined safe zone." The title sponsor was a major German electricity utility, EnBW (Energie Baden-Wurrtemburg). EnBW commended HVFX on their professionalism, and the spectacular impact of the live stunt.
